Russ Crites is a licensed professional counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP). He is also a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, is a certified Irlen screener (problems with reading due to distortions on the page), and is a certified Hypnotherapist. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1976 with a master’s degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Post masters work was completed in order to obtain the certifications/licenses necessary to work with public schools doing psychological testing, behavioral management, individualized behavior plans, and behavioral IEP’s for students. Russ has worked with students in public/private schools for over twenty-five years providing these services. As a result, one of his strengths is working with students who have school related issues.
His specialties include working with students who have ADHD, Asperger, School Phobia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, General Anxiety, etc. In addition to traditional treatment, Russ utilizes biofeedback to address ADHD issues, e.g., inattention, off task, focusing issues. Russ has written a book entitled, Bipolar or ADHD that provides practical tools for both parents and educators. Although Russ has come to work at Coppell Counseling Center, he will continue to work with schools utilizing his License as a Specialist in School Psychology.
Russ’ works with adults includes individual therapy, premarital, couple or marriage therapy, sexual issues, divorce recovery and drug/alcohol issues. He was director of a drug/alcohol program for over five years where he provided treatment for individuals who struggled with substance abuse issues and other addictive disorders. Russ has made presentations at local, state, and regional levels regarding many of the above issues.
